⸺  Andrew Michelin Hotels ⸺

Visionary. Hotelier. Designer. Builder.

Creating distinctly Caribbean hotels shaped by place, people, food, materials and atmosphere.

The Philosophy of Less

Barefoot Luxury, Redefined

Andrew Michelin’s hotels begin with the place itself: the curve of the beach, the movement of the trade winds, the shade of tropical gardens and the rhythm of the sea.

Luxury is found in deep sleep, unhurried meals, natural materials, quiet privacy and the warmth of being looked after without ever feeling managed. Nothing competes for your attention. The landscape sets the pace, simplicity creates space, and the rarest indulgence is the feeling that there is nowhere else you need to be.

Less noise. Less fuss. Less distraction. More sea air, more rest, more connection.

Design Signatures

‍Open to the Sky. Made for Island Living.

The recurring signatures that run through every property are quiet, climate-born ideas that open each stay to light, air and atmosphere.

Open to the sky

Outdoor showers beneath the open sky and surrounded by tropical planting make a daily ritual sensory, liberating, and nostalgic.

Cottage living

Stand-alone cottages rather than large room blocks, each with its own privacy, romance and a distinct sense of place.

Wrapped in tropical flora

Indigenous, flowering planting that adds beauty and seclusion while cooling the buildings and softening the architecture into its setting.

Built by island craft

Local stonework, natural wood, handcrafted furniture and quiet, neutral interiors that belong to the island rather than sit apart from it.

Gathered from land and sea

Fresh fish, local produce and natural ingredients at the centre of every table, and privacy and calm around it.

Roots

Rooted in the Caribbean. Shaped by Andrew Michelin.

From Cocos to Hawksbill and the hotels that followed, Andrew has developed a distinctly Caribbean model shaped by island heritage, local partnership and decades of hospitality experience.

Inspired by island life

The chattel houses and coastal villages Andrew knew growing up inspired a cottage-resort model rooted in privacy, nature and a strong sense of place.

Built through partnership

Working on long leases with local landowning families, Andrew brings the concept, design and operational expertise to realise each site’s potential.

A model that gives back

The approach creates lasting value for landowners while supporting employment, enterprise and the communities surrounding each hotel.

Cuisine

Caribbean Blue Cuisine
Fresh. Local. Nourishing.

Not a rigid wellness programme, but something the Caribbean has always understood, that fresh produce from land and sea, natural ingredients and a slower way of eating can be both more delicious and more nourishing.

Andrew embraced these principles long before the language of Blue Zones became widely known. It is less a new direction than a clearer name for an instinct that has always shaped his tables.

From the islands

Plantain, christophine, eddoes, yams, green fig, coconut, soursop and papaya.

Caught & grown nearby

Fish from local fishermen and produce from surrounding farms and gardens.

Real, never processed

Smoothies and juices pressed from fresh fruit, not concentrates.

Flavour with purpose

Contemporary island cooking that nourishes while supporting local suppliers.

Portrait of Caribbean hotelier Andrew Michelin

Founder

A Founder Formed by the Caribbean

Andrew Michelin is a Caribbean hotelier, designer and builder whose work has shaped some of Antigua's most distinctive hotels. Across more than four decades, he has earned a reputation not simply for opening hotels, but for creating places with a clear point of view rooted in the region and shaped by local life.

A third-generation Jamaican, he grew up close to both agriculture and tourism, among chattel houses and vegetable gardens where fishing and farming were a way of life. A simpler, healthier rhythm, deeply connected to community.

After training at renowned international resorts, including The Greenbrier and Gstaad Palace, he returned to the Caribbean and came to Antigua in 1981 to manage Hawksbill. A close focus on food and beverage turned a simple resort into one of the island's most sought-after properties.

It was there his convictions sharpened: that guests were drawn to individual cottages over large room blocks, that food could transform a resort, and that the region had its own architectural and culinary language, one that never needed replacing with imported ideas.

Over four decades, that instinct has shaped some of Antigua’s most distinctive and commercially successful hospitality properties.

"I wanted to create places where you could close your eyes, taste the food, hear the sea, and know exactly where you were."

More Than a Business. A Way of Life.

Andrew's philosophy is not applied from a distance, he has lived within it. At COCOS he made his home in a cottage inside the hotel itself, sharing the very environment offered to guests.

Waking to sea views, showering in the open air, walking to an unspoilt beach each morning. These are not design ideas, but a way of life that shaped his creativity, his wellbeing and the resorts he went on to build.

Less like commercial products, more the lived expression of a deeply held philosophy.

Past & Future

Past Foundations, Future Projects

A return to Hawksbill

Andrew’s story in Antigua began at Hawksbill. It was one of the earliest major hotels he managed, and the place where many of his core convictions first sharpened: the power of food and beverage, the appeal of individual cottages, and the importance of a more authentic Caribbean character.

The story still unfolding

Andrew Michelin Hotels lays the foundation for what comes next. His experience is now being sought in Guyana, Barbuda and Jamaica, by those who recognise a founder's eye, a hotelier's judgment, a builder's discipline, and a proven ability to unite exceptional sites with a clear hospitality vision.
